February is Membership Month

To thank our members and to welcome newer members, the Buddhist Education Committee is hosting the following events in February, as part of the temple’s Membership Month.

Obutsudan Day. Sunday, Feb. 5, 11:30 a.m. The temple will offer five to ten refurbished Obutsudan at several price points for families looking for home shrine, along with other items to help complete home shrines. For those who purchase an Obutsudan that day, or for any temple family with a new Obutsudan, Rev. Mukojima welcomes them to bring them to the temple, and he will and join them in performing Nembutsu before the home altar to inaugurate their use of their shrine. Members can also receive some of the temple’s ash to inaugurate the incense burner for their shrine.

Member Question and Answer Session. Sunday, Feb. 12, 11:30 a.m., following the Nirvana Day and Fukinkai Memorial Service. Join BEC members and one of our ministers to answer any of your questions about Buddhism, Jodo Shinshu, and other temple traditions.

Seminar on the Multi-Faith Household. Sunday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m. Diversity in the United States has resulted in an unprecedented number of families representing more than one faith. The seminar will provide context for this development and suggestions on how both faiths can be respected. Our context will be the Buddha’s teachings on the validity of other spiritual traditions.
